Little White Lacy Dress

For the headbands: it is really simple.
First crochet the band:
chain as many as you need to go around the head. turn slip st in each stitch until you reach the end then sl st in first st creating a circle.
For the braid attachment.
Row 1: ch 20. St st in 2nd ch from hook, * sk 2 ch, 5 dc in next ch, sk 2 ch, sl st in next ch. Repeat from* to end. Ch1. Do not turn.
Row 2: Working on opposite side of beg ch, sl st in first ch. *Sk 2 ch, 5 dc in next ch, sk 2 ch, sl st in next ch. Repeat from* to end. Fasten off.

Attach to band. I then tied the ribbon on to the center of each knob.

Pumpkin Fun

Just playing with Paints and pumpkins. :)

Felt Alphabet Lower case

So It is time to start preparing for Christmas. Well actually it is really early for me but I'd thought I'd get  a jump on it because I had a good idea. I wanted to make lowercase letters for my neice. She is learning her letters but most the alphabets you can buy are all uppercase so I went to work trying to figure out what to do. First I thought Crochet because it is kind of my go to, but then I saw this super cute idea somewhere. (don't remember where now) and had to try it. Crazy but I've never really done anything with felt so here it went.

I got 10 peices of felt from walmart. Just paper sized sheets. they were 22 cents each. So pretty cheap. Grabbed some white thread and went to work.

Step 1) Choosing your font.I found a font I liked on the computer. something round and spelt out the alphabet. I changed the font so that I fit 2-3 letters on each page horizontally. (depending on the letters). Print.

Step 2) Cutting out the letters. First I cut out the paper letters, then traced them with a permanent marker onto the felt. for each letter i did one forward and then reversed. ( for the front and the back of the letter). Then I cut the letters out of the felt putting the sides with the marker together.

Step 3) Stitch it up. This was pretty easy although a little time consuming. I tried the sewing machine first but it took way to long. Maybe some would do well this way. Second I tried sewing them up by hand by just looping around the outside.

Step 4) Stuffing. I left a little area to add stuffing before finishing it. I used a pen to get it all the way in and around where it needed to be. Then finished stitching it.

Cute little baby Dress

I want to make this so bad. This is darling. I found this dress on http://sarahsweethearts.blogspot.com/2011/04/little-white-dress.html#. She has some way cute crochet patterns and I can't wait to try this one out.

Little White Dress

I made this dress to donate to a pregnancy center for charity. It was made with no pattern. I just crocheted what I wanted it to look like, crocheting in the round with graduated shells. I was asked how to make it, so here's what I did. The inspiration for this dress and trim was the Summer Splendor Doily.

I have went through and edited a few things from earlier, if you find an error or typo after April 5, 2011, please let me know. This was not to be a "pattern" but how I made the original dress for charity. :)

Halloween Fun

So I've never been one much for crafty stuff. Artsy yes...but crafts and cutsie things I've just never had time for. So it is new. However I have had a lot of fun this Halloween getting ready and decorating on a budget of course.

Project number 1:

Spicing up my W Wreath.

supplies:
Mesh fabric
ribbon
Construction paper

step 1: cut the fabric in half hotdog style. Then cut 3 inch strips all thew ay down. Wrap around the W, tying the knot on the outside border of the W. I did just black and then went back and tied smaller peices of orange onto the Black so I didn't use so much fabric.

Step 2: Cut out paper letters saying whatever: EEk, Boo, Wicked. I sewed them on. Just loop it through the top of the letter and the fabric and tye a knot.

Step 3: use the construction paper to make a witches hat, and shoes and legs. I drew the legs and then added the stripes.
I simplified this tutorial for the shoes:
and used this one for the witches hat:

and then added a ribbon to it. Just taping it and twisting it.

For the witches legs. I drew legs on a paper one black and one green. Cut it out. Black was my base color. then I cut the stripes out of the green legs using every other cut. sewed them all on and wala!

Project number 2: The Bat Tree

This one is super easy. find and tree branch. I was going to head up the canyon with my hubby but found one they had trimmed on my way to the mail box.

Cut out bats from black construction paper. Tape to string and hang from tree or ceiling.

I used this template for the bats. It also has ghosts if you want to add them as well

http://familyfun.go.com/printables/bat-ghost-patterns-for-halloween-703190/

(this is also a really good site for a lot of fun party ideas.)

Project Number 3:
The Pom Pom Balls

For this one I got tissue paper to make the balls with

The picture about sums it up. Get tissue paper. 8 sheets of 20x30. of course for halloween I got orange and black with a little white.

1. stack the tissue paper and fold like a fan

2. cut the ends to a rounded corner

3. get wire. I used the twisty tyes that come with bags. Tye around the center.

3. Pull paper out one by one from center. and there you go. I attached a string and hung it from the wall

for more of a halloween touch I went back to the dandy construction paper and cut out some words to go along with it. :)

Baby Baseball cap

I have been wanting a little baseball cap for little Kenter for some time now but couldn't seem to find one so of course the option is to crochet one. I found a patter online and tweeked it a little to get what i wanted, :) I saw a few patterns that showed how to make the cap with ridges as you go but thought it would be fun to change the color of them.
This had fits 15 inch head. For an infant size follow the same pattern but on step 2 dc only 8 instead of 10.

Abreviations:
ch-chain
hdc-half double crochet
dc-double crochet
sl st-slip stitch
st or sts – stitch(es)

For this hat I used Red Heart Yarn and used a double strand pulling from each end with an H Hook.  If you need to make it bigger, simply add an increase row after row 4 until you reach the desired circumference, and then dc in each stitch down.

1. Create a magic ring.
2. Ch2, dc 10 in ring. sl st
3. Ch 2, 2dc in each st. sl st
4. Ch 2, *1 dc, 2dc in next* repeat to end. sl st
5. Ch 2, 1 dc in each, sl st.
6-8 Repeat row 5.
9. (change color,) ch 2, 1 hdc in each, sl st.
10. ( change color)ch 2, 1 sc in each, sl st.
11. The brim. fold hat in half to get your markers. mark  4 stitches in from the edges. (I had 14 stitches in between to work with. You want your first row to be the middle 5.) Count  stitches in from the left marker.
6sc (working in the bars on the last row of cap),
12. turn 6sc, 1sc in next bar on cap
13. turn 7sc, 1sc in next bar on cap
14 turn 8 sc,  1sc in next bar on cap
15- (continue turning and adding a single crochet to the next 2 bars on cap until you have reached markers.)
16- continue sc around hat.

Embelishments:
Using blue:
1. make a magic ring, leave string to tie onto middle of had.
2. 10dc
3. Place circle over the middle circle on cap. pull strings through and tie off,
4. Then I counted 40 stitches around the hat and placed a marker ever 5 stitches starting with the front center.
5. Start blue at top on middle button. ch 12, sl st at first marker, *ch 6, sl st at next marker, ch 12 sl at top middle button, ch 12, sl st at next marker, * repeat 3 times, ch 6, sl st at last marker, ch 12, sl st in middle button, tie off.
6. (border of hat.) I used a needle/safety pin. thread the pin/needle. Insert needle through the top of stitch 2, continue around hat.  Tie off.

Door Hanging Decor

So I was looking on pinterest one day and found a really cute letter. So of course I wanted to make one for myself. It is pretty simple.

Step 1: Draw or sketch whichever letter you want onto cardboard. (or print off the letter and tape it onto the cardboard.) I just used an old cardboard box I had lying around and made the W look how I wanted it.
Step 2: Cut it out.
Step 3:  Pick out the color yarn that you like.
Step 4: Start Wrapping. I really like the look of the vertical lines, so I started wrapping horizontally. This is largley going to depend on the letter that you choose as to which looks better. Just take a little hot glue and glue the end of the yarn to the cardboard at one end then wrap evenly around until you have covered the whole letter.
Step 5: Wrap the other way. I could still see cardboard so i went back and wrapped again the other way. Vertically this time.  I did the two edges first and then finished up with the middle. I used the hot glue in places that had too sharp of an angle to stay wrapped very well.
Step 6: Decorate it. I picked some ribbon that I liked and hot glued that to the back and tied the bow together on top. Also the Bow on the W I glued on as well.
Step 7: Hang and enjoy!

Do it at Home Box

I am starting to get slightly crafty. :) While preparing to have my first baby I wanted some cute boxes to put the clothes in.  I already had a nice bookshelf and knew a box would be perfect to spice it up. I am planning on using it for clothes but these boxes would be perfect for many different types of decorative storage. I started by gathering up some cardboard boxes from my work. Luckily I was able to find the perfect size for the job. I got extra just in case I would need them. I then started checking out the local fabric stores for the covering. I wanted a pretty thick fabric to give the cardboard box some protection. I found this fabric on sale at Walmart. It was thick and had kind of a plastic feel to it. Jean fabric would work, or burlap. Just something with a little texture to it. I chose this because I also liked the color:

Next I got my box ready. I measured out how much fabric I would need to fit around the box. (On the first box I just folded the flaps down but I cut them off on the second one. That seemed to work much better and gave it a smoother look and more room on the inside.)

Then I wrapped the box like  present. I hot glued the side and started going around. Gluing as I went, paying specific attention to the corners. Then I finished it off by folding over the fabric and sealing that with the glue as well.

The bottom I folded in like a present and glued it down pulling tightly to keep the fabric from puckering. The first one was difficult. I was more successful with the next one.

Then I folded the other side down into the box and glued it to the sides.

I repeated this five times to fill the bookshelf and make cute shelves. It is pretty simple but the boxes definitely got better as I went.

Then to add the decoration. I just took a regular ribbon and wrapped that around the box. Then I attached a flower. These flowers are pretty easy to make. You can get the fabric at Michael's and then you just glue the colors you want together. I took whatever button was lying around an made that the center.

The best part is that if I change my mind on color it would be really easy to change out the flower or ribbon.

And Wala There you have it. A easy homemade box. :)

Yarn Wigs

It all started when I wanted to be Rapunzel for Halloween but didn't want to spend a fortune. I started making Yarn wigs. The hat is just a beanie and the wig is tied into it. They are so fun to make and it turned out great. I gave the pink and green wig to my neices. They are adorable on them!
